Diminishing verse:
Stefano Capacchione

Diminishing verse by Stefano Capacchione

At first glance, displaying only charm

No-one knew the extent of the harm

One man could cause with just his arm

To cheering crowds, screams and whoops

He commanded “March!” and made them jump through hoops

When it all went wrong, he shrugged an “oops?”

You see, he never made his minions swear

He simply made the dress they’d all wear

And whispered sweet nothings into their ear

Did you miss it, did he make you blink?

Evidence gone, a vanishing link

Let’s hope these laws were signed in ink

Less is more?

As the last word of each line loses a letter, does that make it more or less powerful? What effect does it have on the way the poem is written?
